ISKANDAR PUTERI: The state government\u2019s efforts to produce more competent contractors, particularly among Bumiputeras, have received a boost following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Johor Centre for Construction Development (JCCD) and the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB), here, yesterday.<\/span><\/header>\n

JCCD chairman Mohd Solihan Badri said the MoU would enable building contractors registered with it to receive various benefits, such as the provision of construction industry training and exposure to effective project management module.<\/p>\n

The MoU is valid for two years and can be extended by another year.<\/p>\n

The MoU was signed by CIDB deputy chief executive officer Mohd Azizi Ali and Mohd Solihan Badri as a representative of the state government.<\/p>\n

The event was witnessed by State Public Works, Infrastructure and Transport Committee chairman Mazlan Bujang.<\/p>\n

\u201cJCCD is a subsidiary of Permodalan Darul Ta\u2019zim. Even though it has a \u2018Sendirian Berhad\u2019 status, it is wholly owned by the state government and is entrusted with the objective of developing local contractors,\u201d said Mohd Solihan.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are many opportunities available due to the mega projects now being undertaken here (Johor),\u201d he said after the ceremony.<\/p>\n

He said there were about 14,000 contractors registered with JCCD. However, up to 30 per cent of them are believed to be inactive.<\/p>\n
